OUR FIRST MUSICAL ADVENTURE DOCUMENTARY FILM:
Ruggieri’s Riff; The Masterful Crafting
of the Boardman High School Jazz Fest
an Interview with Tom Ruggieri
“My philosophy in teaching is I’m going to have the music here. There’s going to be kids that can play, but most of them are not afterwards. I’ve got to serve all of those kids, not just the ones that are going to major in music, and try to get a career in it. There’s so many more that are just doing this because it’s a fun release. I’ve got to serve those kids. And I try to do that with the life lessons and the wisdom, that make sense to me in getting through life. I have to impart that knowledge to all the kids. And the guest artist thing, they help us do that.”

(thanks, Joe Pulizzi for making us aware of this in Content, Inc., 2nd Edition)THE DAYBREAK DISPATCH exists to improve the world of music makers. In particular, courageous and entrepreneurial School Band Directors (Band Directors from herein).
We discover, film and follow up their musical adventures that are worthy of being chronicled and shared. Our musical motion magazine is a means to broadcast Band Director’s stories so that their vital work is made known, recognized and promoted.
We also create professional development content to inform these important music educators on EXECUTIVE and ENTRENPRENEURIAL know-how. Mind-Sets and Skill-Sets essential to survive and keep instrumental school band programs alive, with continuity and scalability.
In general, University and College programs focus almost exclusively on teaching future music educators (Band Directors) how to perform and teach music. Makes sense. But there is so much more required to be highly effective on the job to assure School Band Programs perpetuate themselves and abound with energy, robust financial resources and execute using modern-day innovation models.
CRITICAL KNOW-HOW VOID
Yes, higher education faculty relentlessly focus on musicianship, and should as part of a future Band Director’s education – but what do the overwhelming number of University and College music education programs not do?
They do not endow and energize future Band Directors with real-world skills to identify, create and capitalize on opportunities (entrepreneurship) or to excel at business (executive) marketing and financial planning, logistics, risk mitigation, strategic decision-making, branding and advanced problem-solving related to operating robust, agile and high-continuity school band programs. Aren’t many of the core elements and activities of a School Band Program similar to those of managing and keeping viable a business enterprise? Of course!
To fill this critical know-how void, THE DAYBREAK DISPATCH creates short-format cinematic professional development features with support content and protocols developed and presented by highly experienced Band Directors and music makers that are also seasoned Business Executives and innovative Entrepreneurs. Here are some examples of 2023 planned courses which will be strongly scenario-based and utilize our proprietary CIL (Continuous Impact Learning) Model:

THROWN TO THE WOLVES – DAY ONE
More often than not, as competition amplifies between school system music programs, sports and others for funds and resources, especially new Band Directors come out of college and are thrown to the wolves. We see this time and time again. These enthused, bright, able, caring and musically capable individuals simply were not taught essential non-musical survival skills.
Even experienced Band Directors can rapidly and irreversibly devolve due to budget cuts, decreases in staffing, apathetic (or even hostile administrators) or be exploited and “end runned” by highly aggressive same-school-peers that are savvy and proficient at Executive and Entrepreneurial skills.
Many “business-naive” music makers get fleeced at budget time too. NO MORE!
Raison d’être: SET UP BAND DIRECTORS TO SUCCEED
Students, their loved ones, communities…so many benefit immeasurably when Band Directors are highly effective at Executive and Entrepreneurial know-how.
THE DAYBREAK DISPATCH will “not wait a single moment” to relentlessly improve the world of music making by devoting our all to set up Band Directors to succeed.
Now… imagine the musical adventures ahead.
