Conn Selmer Institute
June 11-14, 2023
“Conn Selmer Institute (CSI) is a three-and-a-half day professional development conference for college students, directors, and music program leaders. Our world-class faculty leads a curriculum with specialized tracks focusing on college students, new music educators, middle school directors, high school directors including marching arts, and music administrators. We love the traditions and personal connections made in-person at Bethel University and are thrilled with the success of the virtual option to attend as well – the best of both worlds!”

We are capturing motion and still content of interviews with Tyler, Nate and three student musicians and filming rehearsals, portions of their “Send Off to OMEA” performance, 26th January 2023 then chronicling many segments ensuing as their venture to the Columbus Convention Center unfolds.
After their performance and return to Cortland, Ohio – we will continue to chronicle Tyler’s, Nate’s and the selected student’s impressions about this profound musical, personal and group encounter.
Superintendent & Middle School Principal
Tyler and Nate represent courageousness, entrepreneurship in action and innovation in School Band Directing. They exemplify leadership and grit that is essential and powerful to positively impact music-making students and our society. This worthy musical adventure must be chronicled and shared.
To this result, THE DAYBREAK DISPATCH of Daybreak Music is fully devoted.
Do You Realize
How You Look in Their Eyes
Original Song Tribute for Band Directors
[Film shot from POV of Students, Parents, Community Members Interacting with and Admiring Band Directors]
CHORUS / INTRO
Do you realize, how you look in their eyes
Do you really know how they feel when you show up
To strike up the Band
Verse I
You say it’s all in a day’s work – you’re no hero
You brush it off, “It’s the job I do.”
But deep inside’s so much pride and we know
We’re so lucky to have you
Do you realize, how you look in their eyes
Do you really know how they feel when you show up
To strike up the Band
Verse II
Desperate lives: desperate times, look for leaders
To make sense of it all
You bring hope, you help cope with defeaters
Oh yes you heed the call
Do you realize, how you look in their eyes
Do you really know how they feel when you show up
Do you understand
BRIDGE
Now, when you’re alone
Think on how much all your students have grown
You, you’ve guided their way
Now there is nothing that ever can take that joy away
SOLO
CHORUS / OUTRO
Do you realize, how you look in their eyes
Do you really know how they feel when you show up
To strike up the Band
Do you realize, how you look in their eyes
Do you really know how they feel when you show up
Do you understand
Do you realize HOW YOU LOOK IN THEIR EYES
